Octagonal, signed “Walker” on top flat and marked by barrel maker “H. BAYERS” in a cartouche near the patent breech, on left side. Flat lockplate marked “EARPS/McMAIN” with engraving at tang and on percussion hammer. Brass furniture. Finely engraved four-piece brass patchbox. Stock has 13 silver inlays, including: vacant oval wrist escutcheon, inlay above cheekpiece with a splayed eagle engraved on it, two-piece silver sideplate, a shield above the toeplate and eight finely engraved and shaped barrel key escutcheons. Brass barrel keys. Figured full-length maple stock with brass nosecap, carved with relief molding along forend and terminating in concentric ovoids on each side which are incise carved. Comb with relief molding and sprigs of incised scrolls. Complete with period priming horn, plug with initials “JR“ carved into it. In very good condition, barrel retains an even brown patina overall with some pitting around breech, maker signature shows some wear. Converted percussion lock retains a brown patina with some pitting in center of lockplate. Brass and silver are very dark and have not been cleaned. Stock is excellent, showing a few light scattered marks from use. This is a fine example of a quality and original Pennsylvania long rifle.
