Manufactured 1895. Blued octagon to round barrel with full length tube magazine and stamped with Marlin address, patent dates and "MARLIN 44-40" at breech. Lever action with blued loading gate engraved one right side with a series of pinwheel scrolls and on left side with a panel scene of a buck beneath a tree surrounded on each side by two spiraling scrolls; bottom of action also scroll engraved; tang marked "MODEL 1894". Highly figured semi-pistol grip deluxe buttstock with checkered panels on each side of grip and steel crescent buttplate; figured walnut forend with shaped checkered panels and steel end cap. Good condition; re-blued barrel and tube magazine retain about 95-98% re-blued finish with some scattered light marks and some marks beneath finish. Excellent shiny bore. Action retains an even light grey patina; lever with traces of case colors mostly turned to silver. Buttstock has some scattered areas with losses to finish, some scattered dents and marks from use, and some checkering marred. Forend has large areas without finish, some wear to checkering, and some marks from use.
CORRECTION: Factory research states 26" octagon barrel, .44 caliber, pistol grip stock, shipped December 18, 1895. Engraving not mentioned, which is usual.
