Manufactured 1978. This is an early Third Generation with a matching pair of cylinders; one for .44 Special and one for .44-40. Barrel is stamped "44 Special". The .44 Special cylinder is numbered to gun and the .44-40 cylinder is simply stamped "44-40" on back. Both cylinders are identically engraved. The gun features full coverage engraving stem to stern with the exception of cylinder flutes and front grip strap. It is full nickel plated and sports a pair of eagle and shield left panel carved one piece ivory grips. Revolver remains unfired in as new condition inside and out. Comes in a wooden Colt display case. Factory research letters as a standard gun. The engraver has signed his name on the front of the frame "J. Adams". John Adams Sr. got his start in 1968 with the H&R Company, he went to work for Colt as a master engraver in 1976 where he engraved over 3,000 guns. Some of the personalities that received highly decorated guns were Tom Seleck, John Wayne, and Sammy Davis Jr. Adams work is of the highest quality as would be expected of any Colt master engraver, as that title is not easily gained; he favored the style of engraving with scrolls and punch-dot backgrounds of Cuno Helfricht. This is one of the most highly decorative engraved Colts done by Adams, and it is without peer. Simply breathtaking.
