Round, smooth bore barrel with nipple drilled into top of barrel. Bayonet lug on top near muzzle, three steel barrel bands, front barrel band with brass half moon sight, middle barrel band with sling swivel, converted percussion lock plate marked, "U.S. / E. WHITNEY" in center with crossed arrow and olive branch and stamped, "NEW / HAVEN / 1834" vertically at tail. Typical Model 1816 steel furniture and unique brass buttplate. Walnut full length stock with indistinct cartouche behind side plate. Good condition. Barrel retains a mostly dark patina with some lighter areas and heavy pitting at breech, nipple replaced, lock retains an even gray patina with some light pitting. Furniture retains a dark brown patina, some components with surface rust. Barrel has dent between first and second barrel band. Stock is good with scattered marks from use and losses to finish. One repaired area behind lock and barrel tang. Bayonet is complete with socket bayonet with triangular blade, blade is partially fluted and marked at top, "US / EB". In very good condition, gray with dark brown patina, some light pitting and scattered nicks.
