Manufactured from 1898 to 1905. Round blued barrel with single silver bead and no rib; marked on top "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO,. NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PAT'D NOV. 6. 1894. MAY 12. 1896. & JUNE 2. 1896." and marked on the left side "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" and "16 GA" on top near bore. Blued slide action receiver engraved with fine scrolls on both sides and the left side having a large panel scene of a flock of five mallards over a marsh; and the other side having two pheasants; serial number stamped on bottom of action with engraved foliage and scrolls surrounding it. Case hardened hammer. Tube magazine beneath barrel. Highly figured varnished walnut deluxe semi-pistol grip buttstock with checkered panels on each side of wrist and black makers buttplate inscribed "Marlin"'; forearm also highly figured with checkered shaped panels. Very good condition; barrel and tube retain about 30-40% thinning blue finish, otherwise barrel is light grey with traces of blue in protected areas; some scratches, spots and marks from use; excellent shiny bore. Action retains about 20% of original blue finish, mostly turned to silver. Stocks are excellent showing some wear to checkering and scattered marks from use.
