Rifled octagonal barrel with brass front and rear notch sight; breech with stiff leaf silver band. Flintlock lock plate marked "J COOPER" in center and engraved at tail with a bird and Acanthus leaf. Unique four piece pierced brass patchbox with engraved soldier shouldering a musket on the lid surrounded by fine 'C' scrolls. At top of patchbox finial is a silver inlaid eagle holding with two banners in its mouth, both engraved "WAW". Left side of buttstock features a diamond shaped silver inlay above the cheekpiece engraved with a sunburst; large engraved silver eagle inlaid on butt behind cheekpiece. Engraved brass toeplate with pineapple finial. Brass two piece sideplate, the top screw escutcheon engraved with a hemp plant. Silver barrel key escutcheons on both sides of forend. Small oval escutcheon behind the barrel tang and engraved with indistinct initials. Highly figured full length maple stock with checkered wrist. Brass furniture and silver inlays are excellent. Silver eagle above patchbox with some wear to engraving; trigger guard with some scattered marks from use. Stock is good as refinished, showing heavy wear to checkering. Some chipping around the tang. A cracked area above the lock, and cracks stemming from rear retaining screw. About a 2" loss directly in front of the trigger guard exposing the ramrod. Rifle has probably been shortened.
