Rifled octagonal swivel breech over-under barrels separated by full length brass ribs on each side with pan and frizzen at each breech. Rib on left side engraved with scrolls, flowers and detailed borders; other side mounted with wooden ramrod with brass tip and engraved en suite. Both barrels have a shaped brass plaque inlaid on the top flat, signed "Nicholas Hawk" in script with engraving on each side and in the center. Flintlock lockplate with long rear tang and swan neck cock. Mechanism rotates by pulling trigger guard backwards to switch barrels. Brass sideplate on left side of stock engraved with detailed eight-petaled flower. Pierced four piece brass patchbox pierced with heart shapes and engraved with detailed borders, panels of checkering and scrolls; long pointed finial. Large patriotic splayed eagle standing on shield inlaid onto left side of buttstock behind the cheekpiece; cheekpiece molding has engraved brass cover and brass tube for pick mounted below. This brass inlay along bottom of each side of stock engraved with broken line border. Above the cheekpiece is an encircled and engraved Moravian star and on each side of the wrist is an engraved winged half moon silver inlay and an ovoid wrist escutcheon on top of the wrist. Figured maple stock of typical Lehigh County, Pennsylvania form; raised carved panels around lock and sideplate. Good condition; barrels retain a dark brown patina with scattered marks from use and some edge wear; signed brass panels show heavy wear, but signature is still visible; brass ribs on each side have scattered marks from use and dents with some dark areas. Ramrod has original faux striping; some dents on brass convex channel. Locks have been professionally reconverted. Cock is original but probably has been replaced. Brass retains a somewhat polished patina with some dark areas. Silver is slightly tarnished. Stock is very good; toe was broken off and repaired using original piece, some chipping around buttplate; stock is good as refinished. Toeplate has been broken and repaired and has some dents and misshapen areas.
