Rifled octagonal barrels with centered rear sights, one barrel signed "Nicholas Hawk" in a silver inlaid panel and having a silver front sight; the other barrel also signed "Nicholas Hawk" in a brass inlaid panel and having a brass front sight. Barrels separated by full length brass ribs, both finely engraved with scrolls, florals, and detailed borders; one side having brass barrel keys, the other side bearing the ramrod. Innovative swivel breech system with engraved locks; barrels can be changed by pulling back on trigger guard and swiveling barrels, and re-engaging trigger guard to secure barrels. Each barrel has a bolster and nickel. Percussion hammer decorated to match engraving on lock. Lockplate has long rear tang. This rifle features seven finely engraved and pierced silver inlays. One the left side of the buttstock behind the cheekpiece is a patriotic eagle with a shield; above the cheekpiece is an eight pointed Moravian star surrounded by an oval, and ivory pick is mounted on the cheekpiece in an engraved touch-hole pick mount. Delicately engraved silver inlays surround the barrel tang and silver inlays on each side of the wrist with a vacant oval wrist escutcheon with detailed borders on top. Finely engraved pierced four piece patchbox with pointed finial typical of the work of Nicholas Hawk. Full brass comb wearplate decorated with repeating patterns; full toe wearplate extends from buttplate into trigger guard and is engraved with foliage, fine scrolls and repeating patterns, sideplate engraved en suite. Highly fiogured maple stock with additional faux striping and violin finish; form typical of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Very good condition; barrels retains a dark brown even patina, some light wear on silver panel, brass ribs are excellent, some wear on ramrod furls. Hammer has some losses around nipple into neck. Swivel mechanism functions very well. Brass and silver retain a somewhat polished appearance. Stock is excellent as refinished with much of the original violin finish still visible.
