Octagonal smooth bore barrel; unsigned; centered rear sight typical of Lehigh County surrounded on each side by double lines. Flat flintlock lockplate with rounded tail is unmarked. Brass furniture includes four piece pierced patchbox fastened by pins and engraved with 'C' scrolls, stiff leaf and flowing foliage; toeplate in the shape of a tombstone with checkered triangle and sprig of engraving around screw. Plain sideplate with a long arrow at the rear trigger guard with 'C' scroll engraved bow and plain brass ramrod furls and nosecap. Ornate silver inlaid and engraved Moravian star above cheekpiece. Two silver wire brackets for touch-hole pick mounted below cheek piece. Full length partially figured maple stock of typical circa 1820-30 Lehigh County, Pennsylvania form and reddish violin stain. Large checkered panel surrounded by 'C' scrolls, shell designs and a large daisy carved behind cheekpiece on buttstock; incised carved Allentown Indian head or Liberty head in front of trigger guard; relief carved border around barrel tang; and stylized Fleur-de-lis with face incised carved behind ramrod entry furl. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Very good condition; barrel retains a dark brown patina with some light edge wear and scattered areas of pitting around the breech. Lock has been reconverted and mainspring is loose. Brass retains an unpolished patina. Stock excellent as refinished with about 12" of forend professionally restored; ramrod replaced. Carving is excellent and shows little wear, some light scattered marks from use.
