Between 1941 and 1946, the Swedish M40 was made by Husqvarna Vapenfabrinks A.B. (HVA). The Danish police ordered 10,000 M40s and the serial numbers were in the 5,000 to 15,000 range with a “D” prefix, serial number on this firearms is D13917, putting it in this range. Tapered round blued barrel, blued slide marked on left side “HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS A.B.”, with serrated pull tabs for bolt at rear. Blued frame and bolt, safety lever on left side near top of grip. The M40 has the backstrap cut for a removable shoulder stock that is interchangeable with the Luger stock. Hard black plastic checkered grips with Husqvarna logo. Excellent condition, retains 98% plus blue finish showing very little use. Light wear on safety and take down lever, and some light scratches from storage. Missing the blued steel magazine. Excellent bore. This pistol appears to be possibly unissued. This gun, although appearing the same as a Luger, has a much different Bergmann-style internal mechanism. Husqvarna, the sole manufacture, produced an estimated 82,480 M40s.
