Manufactured 1970. Factory letter states it was shipped with 7-1/2" barrel in .45 caliber, finish "in the white" and stocks not listed. It was shipped to AA White Engravers in Manchester, Connecticut August 25th, 1971 as part of a shipment of eight guns. AA White Engraves was established in 1961 as the new engraving operation for Colt's firearms, manned by Alvin White alone and expanded to a qualified staff of several master engravers through the years. The company was absolved in 1976. White engraved Colts for some of the most prominent luminaries of the era, to include: J. Edgar Hoover; Presidents Nixon, Ford, Johnson and Kennedy; Chuck Connors; Elmer Keith; Jack O'Conner; John Amber; Hank Williams Jr; and dozens of others. An entire chapter is devoted to A.A. White in the book entitled "Colt Engraving" by Wilson. According tot he book, work done by White personally were not marked, while company engraved guns were marked "AW" or "WE"; we can find no sign of any engraver stamp on this revolver. A very similar engraving, done in the style of Cuno Helfricht, can be found on page 459; the engraving is a beautiful scroll with nearly full coverage on from and cylinder, half coverage on barrel. The revolver is completely silver plated with Nitre blue accents and is fitted with a pair of two piece ivory grips with Colt silver medallions. The revolver remains in unfired condition; cylinder walls are bright, having never seen a cartridge. It is one of the most breathtaking and handsome master engraved Colts that would be a showpiece in any collection of highly decorated arms.
