The holy grail of minnow traps and the only known example in existence, condition is beyond remarkable. The patent for this trap was granted on Feb. 15, 1898 and is nicely featured on page 81 of the Dec., 2008 issue of Sporting Collectibles magazine in an article written by Terry McBurney. Invented and patented by Charles Wisner, the founder of the Flint Reel Co. Wisner lived between 1850 and 1915 and was a very colorful and interesting historical figure who worked as a lawyer, architect, automobile builder, and reel manufacturer during his lifetime. He was granted two patents in the late 1800’s for fishing reel improvements. The trap is constructed of collapsible celluloid panels with brass hinges and can be erected and secured simply with metal rods. It has remained in its assembled state for many years and will be shipped in the assembled state. There are no puncture holes or damage to any of the panels with exception to some light fogging on one side panel. This is certainly a museum quality piece and one of the most well preserved delicate pre – 1900 tackle items this writer has ever observed. Box measures 6-3/4” X 11” X 1” and the assembled trap measures 6” X 10” X 5-3/4”.
