Patent dated Aug. 17, 1926. Chip in decal. The Performo toy company of Middleton, PA. made a series of flat wood figures held together with small nuts and bolts which allow the figures to be artfully posed. All were produced from 1926 to 1928 and represent licensed characters who debuted in the 1920s. Micky was likely the first of the characters made and was a creation of the Performo company and not a licensed comic strip character. Performo famously sued Walt Disney for copyright infringement claiming Walt's Mickey Mouse was stolen from their Micky. Performo lost and the company folded soon after, a victim of the Great Depression. Minor paint loss on tip of nose, one hand, and top of ear. See ATW Spotlight article Jan. 2009 p. 59. Provenance: Collection of Carl Lobel.
