As the production of automobiles were on the rise, parking became troublesome in many towns and cities. Invented by Carl C. Magee in 1935, the first parking meter was not officially installed onto streets until after the Great Depression, not only bringing order but also money for municipals with patrons paying to park by the hour. This Dual model features an attached double parking meter and is mechanically operated, accepting 1-12 nickels or 2 quarters with 2 nickels. The meter is made of metal with a cast iron leg and base, painted red. The time remaining display and the embossed numbers "55" and "56" are shown on both sides. Moderate wear on this base, fantastic piece overall.
Condition: (Very Good).
Item Dimensions: 50-1/2"T x 16"D.
