U.S. 60MM MORTAR (DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE). FIRESTONE M-2 793945 60MM MODERN; NFA; C&R Cal. 60mm. 25-3/4" bbl. End cap marked "Firestone T.& R. Co. 1945 11.5 LBS with additional markings C.L.O.D-A" and flaming bomb. Additional markings on cap "DMD 60mm 001 / DIX JAX FL" which indicates this is a reactivated mortar cup. It is obvious that this cup is a renumber with flattened metal under the SN. This is borne out by the fact that the end cup is mostly in the white except for remnants of O.D. paint in recessed areas less than 5% remaining. Tube itself is 100% bare metal with no markings except a horizontal straight index mark for the attachment of the bipod collar. Orig GI baseplate, bipod, and M4 sight without case, as well as a web muzzle cover and strap are included. Bipod marked "M" and dated 1945. Firing pin present in end cap. Unable to determine length of protrusion within mortar. This is an NFA item and requires BATF approvel prior to transfer. This weapon is fully transferable on an ATF form 3 or form 4 under the classification Destructive Device (DD). PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of noted discerning firearms enthusiast, Donald W. Dix, Jr. CONDITION: Some very slight areas of light surface corrosion in places on the unpainted tube, with baseplate retaining almost all of its orig green paint. Bipod has one leg in the white with the remainder having green paint coverage with about 70% overall remaining. Interior of tube has some uniform brown light corrosion but still appears very serviceable. Leveling bubbles in sight are in good serviceable condition. With a little cleanup and the addition of the appropriate color paint, this would be a fine attractive display piece and a load of fun on the firing range. 51794-21 JWK140 (1,500-2,500)
