EARLY MANUFACTURED FULLY TRANSFERABLE ORIGINAL GERMAN MG-42 MACHINE GUN (FULLY TRANSFERABLE).GERMANMG 422550.308MODERN; NFA; C&RCal. 8 MM MAUSER. 21" bbl. Gustfloff "dfb" manufactured MG-42 machine gun which was assembled in 1943 as indicated by markings on left side of receiver. Incoming E-File indicates "Form 2" in manufacturer block. Consignor states that this gun was registered by the CIA as part of a grouping of five guns so registered. Eagle proofs over "WaA" on top of receiver. Bbl SN does not match receiver SN. Top cover and feed tray are also Nazi marked "bpr" with Nazi proofs also visible on late style handgrip assembly which has smooth wooden grip panels. Bi-pod is also Nazi marked and dated 1943. Cam locking frame manufactured by Mauser "ar" with clear Nazi eagle proof. AA flip up rear sight bar present at rear sight base. Bbl in gun is 8 MM. Wooden unnumbered butt is orig Nazi WWII without wire reinforcement and dated "43". The MG-42 machine gun was the successor to the MG-34 and was designed with a higher rate of fire and more importantly was manufactured using less time consuming and less expensive methods of stamping, shaping, and welding metal parts as opposed to machining or milling them out of billets of steel. Although both the MG-34 and MG-42 were produced through the end of WWII, the MG-42 with its high rate of fire made a very distinct impression upon American servicemen. This is a National Firearms Act item and requires BATF approval prior to transfer. This weapon is fully transferable on an ATF form 3 or form 4. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine as re-finished over light pitting with some light scratches and scuffs to bare metal. Cam lock frame has taken on a plum colored appearance. Bi-pod exhibits light pitting under bright blue re-finish. Smooth wood grip panels have a couple of chips and some bruises but are still completely serviceable. Wooden buttstock in about the same condition with an original wooden plug visible at toe with discernible Nazi three letter code (hvn?) followed by "43" on left side. Mechanics are fine. Bore is fine, shiny and bright. The MG-42 is one of the most sought after of the WWII German machine guns, and notable about this specimen is the fact that it is a 1943 manufactured gun which retains its orig unmodified wooden butt and factory matched bi-pod. 53171-1 JWK (35,000-55,000)
