MAGNIFICENT SAVAGE LEWIS MACHINE GUN WITH NAVY ANCHOR PROOFED BOLT (CURIO & RELIC).SAVAGEM1917 LEWIS1920930-063 pan mags, 2 canvas carriers, 1 bipod assembly, 1 book, 5 manuals.MODERN; NFA; C&RCal. .30-06 27-1/2" bbl. Exceedingly clean Lewis machine gun as manufactured by Savage Arms Corporation and so marked on right side of receiver as well as on action cover. Tiny U/3 proof mark at top of cooling shroud. Bolt charging handle safety cover is from a British Lewis gun and marked "BSA" and also "LEFT I*". This lot includes three orig loaded 47 round .30-06 pan magazines in two canvas carriers with one loading tool, clamp on bipod marked "EFD", book The Lewis Gun by David Truby and five vintage Lewis machine gun manuals, one "Lewis Gun Mechanism Made Easy" sixth edition, one "The Complete Lewis Gunner" (British publications), two Savage Arms Corporation "Lewis Machine Gun" in sealed plastic sleeves, and one handbook of the "Lewis Machine Gun (Airplane Type)" for Model 1917-18. The Lewis Machine Gun was a highly successful, portable machine gun from the WWI era and highly prized by soldiers who could acquire them (especially the Germans when they captured them). This is a National Firearms Act item and requires BATF approval prior to transfer. This weapon is fully transferable on an ATF form 3 or form 4 as Curio & Relic eligible. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish extremely fine likely an arsenal refinish with very fine pin prick roughness on right side of receiver in vicinity of maker's markings, underneath the finish. Wooden hand grips are extremely fine, near pristine. Wooden buttstock has a few dings and handling marks. Bolt is in the white with US Navy Anchor proof mark clearly visible through ejection port. Mechanics are crisp with a very smooth action. Bore is fine with some firing residue in grooves. Pan magazines range from very good to very fine with some brown patina and otherwise turning a pleasing gray patina particularly at the high edges. Bipod extremely fine, dull blue refinsh. Manuals are all in good condition. An extremely attractive Lewis with a very smooth action and great accessories included. 53185-2 JWK (35,000-50,000)
