OUTSTANDING RELATIVELY EARLY WEST HURLEY MANUFACTURED 1928 THOMPSON MACHINE GUN (CURIO & RELIC).AUTO ORDINANCE1928 THOMPSON1814A45 ACPMODERN; NFA; C&RCal. .45ACP. 12-1/2" bbl. Very fine attractive West Hurley vintage Thompson model 1928 with Thompson bullet logo on top of receiver and also on top of Cutts compensator. Attractive detachable walnut wood buttstock. Receiver SN is the only visible SN. One 30 rnd mag included. Typical Auto-Ordnance markings with model and SN markings on both sides of receiver have been white filled and stand out beautifully. The Thompson machine gun was originally marketed to anyone who wanted to buy it but most often purchased by police and security agencies. Later it was taken into military service and utilized in large numbers in WWII. Still later, through to current day it became a collector's item and primarily a recreational firearm. There was sufficient demand in the private sector for these guns for them to be manufactured for private ownership through the mid 1980s, at which time the U.S. Firearm Owners Protection Act prohibited the new registration of machine guns for individual private citizen ownership. These guns have been steadily becoming more and more sought after. This is a National Firearms Act item and requires BATF approval prior to transfer. This weapon is fully transferable on an ATF form 3 or form 4 as Curio & Relic eligible. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish, deep lustrous blue finish with loss of finish to bare metal where the charging handle rides in top of the receiver. sliver of bare metal at center of rear sight base where top of sight folds down, otherwise the occasional handling mark on metal and wood. But overall an exceedingly handsome fine condition specimen with crisp mechanics. Brilliant bright bore. And attractive walnut wood. A very fine Thompson anyone would be proud to own, shoot, and display. 53171-11 JWK (15,000-20,000)
