ARTIST RENDITION OF AN ADVERTISING POSTER FOR UNITED STATES LINES.The large painting on panel advertising the S. S. America with trips between New York, Havre, and South Hampton. The two stack ocean liner is seen traveling left to right with a large bottle of Remy Martin cognac. Housed in a fine modern dark stained frame behind plexiglass. Note: The S. S. America built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock in 1940; 33,532 tons, 660 feet in length, with a beam of 93 feet, twin screw propulsion, she could cruise at twenty-three knots, keel laid 22 August, 1938; launched 31 August, 1939. She was taken over by the U.S. Navy on 15 June, 1941 and renamed West Point. She was reconditioned to passenger service in 1946. Sold to Chandris Line in 1964. She subsequently broke in half while being towed. SIZE: Sight 43-1/2" h x 51" w. Overall 46-1/2" h x 56-1/2" w. CONDITION: Very good. 52813-5 WAG (4,000-6,000)
