FRAMED ADVERTISING PAINTING FOR TRANS ATLANTIQUE FRENCH LINE.The oil on panel artist proof painting depicts the three stack ocean liner "Normandie" shown between New York city skyline and Le Havre skyline. Titled at the top and also having an advertising balloon for "Veuve Clicquot Champagne" trailing a banner "Le Luxe Francais En Mer". All housed in a fine dark stained molded wood frame with gold edge, behind plexiglass. Note: the passenger ship "Normandie," built by Chantiers & Ateliers de Penhoet, Saint-Nazaire, France. The keel laid 26 January, 1931 and launched 29 November, 1932. Propulsion by four screws powered by steam turbine engines. Passenger capacity of 1,972 occupants. The Normandie broke the speed record for a Trans-Atlantic crossing of four days, three hours, and fourteen minutes with an average speed of 31.37 knots. She was badly gutted by fire at New York City Pier Nine in February 1942, at which point in time she was converted to a troop transport ship and subsequently dismantled at the end of WWII in Port Newark, New Jersey in December 1946.
