German WW2 MP-40 manufactured by “bnz” (Steyr) in 1943. Machined steel parts such as barrel and barrel nut are proof marked by “fxo” (C.G. Haenel), yet are matching in serial number to the receiver number of the gun. Later manufacturing technique of having trunnion retained by indentation on top and bottom of receiver tube. Visible numbers appear matching including barrel, barrel nut, receiver, lower assembly, trigger guard, rear sight, and bolt. Arms of swing out shoulder loop do not match rest of gun. Three post-war magazines are included. Front sight hood and muzzle nut are not present. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good, original finish with a soft brown patina on exposed sheet metal parts with more of a gray patina on the grip frame. Upon disassembly and also examining the inside of the receiver tube one finds far nicer finish remaining. Just as one would expect a combat field-used machine gun to be. Bakelite barrel resting bar has some chips and gouges, but very solid and serviceable. Rh grip panel has 2-1/2” long x 3/8” wide chip missing from back which does not affect serviceability. Bore rifling is strong, dark in the grooves. Bolt face is very fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. Please take note that although in a deactivated legal status there does not appear to be any damage to the chamber whatsoever. The MP-40 needs no introduction to the World War II collector or recreational machine gun enthusiast. Considered by many to be one of the best entry level historical machine guns, it is slow firing, from an open bolt, with parts available and readily available ammunition and magazines. A gun you will take to the range over and over for the sheer fun and simplicity of it. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 5 AS A CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE DEACTIVATED MACHINE GUN. THIS GUN MAY BE REACTIVATED UPON APPLICATION AND APPROVAL BY THE BATF, SUBJECT TO ANY STATE AND LOCAL RESTRICTIONS. JWK 18-39
