Lot contains: A) Rear seam, swivel bale helmet with four stars attached to the front and a Westinghouse liner with a 1952 dated sweatband. Identified to General William M. Hoge who commanded the IX Corps during the Korean War. General Hoge served in the U.S. Army from 1912-1955, receiving the DSC for heroic action under fire as a battalion commander in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. During World War II, he directed the construction of the Alaska Highway, commanded the Provisional Engineer Special Brigade Group in the assault on Omaha Beach and by war's end, Hoge commanded the 4th Armored Division. CONDITION: Helmet is in excellent condition. B) USAF Chief of Staff blue service cap with a partial interior label which reads "GENERAL LEW ALLEN, JR/ CHIEF OF STAFF/ UNITED STATES AIR FORCE". Interior displays a maker’s label from "Luxenburg New York". The caps band and visor feature sets of silver embroidered clouds with lightning bolts, designating the wearer as the USAF Chief of Staff. General Lew Allen Jr. was the tenth chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and served from 1946-1982. CONDITION: The cap shows minor wear but remains in very good condition. From the Ray Bentley collection.
