Lot contains: A) Royal Artillery Home Service Pattern Blue Cloth Helmet with gilt King's crown general service helmet plate, gilt ball quadrant and chin chain with rose side ornaments. Green cloth and cream leather and red silk interior. The interior crown displays a red Morocco panel on which is embossed "George Downie 49, Clayton St East Newcastle-On-Tyne", inked on the sweatband "J.P. Paynton". Housed in its original Japanned tin case. CONDITION: Helmet is in excellent condition showing minor wear. Case shows moderate wear. B) London Artillery Volunteers Officer's Home Service Pattern, Blue Cloth Helmet with Ball Top Mount and silver plated fittings including metal cross piece, ball top and rose bosses supporting chin chain. The front of the helmet bears the silver plated London Artillery Volunteers Helmet Plate with Kings Crown, Royal Arms with scroll below over an artillery piece resting on a scroll. The helmet is complete with leather sweatband and stitched panel lining. Housed in its original Japanned tin case with a damaged brass plate which reads "Capt Geo Adams London Artillery". CONDITION: Helmet is in very good condition. Case shows moderate wear. From the Ray Bentley collection.
