Lot contains: A) 2nd Artillery Officer's Dress Helmet. Black wool-covered cork body with two-piece brass eagle front plate displaying the German silver number "2" on the shield, artillery side buttons. The helmet exhibits gold knotted cords at the front and back and a red yak hair plume extends from the spike. Tan leather sweatband shows minor staining. CONDITION: Excellent condition with metal components displaying most of their original gilt finish. B) 7th Cavalry Officer's Dress Helmet. The black wool-covered cork body exhibits areas of breakage and extra holes behind the front plate. The helmet displays a Model 1872 cavalry front plate, yellow yak hair plume, gold knotted cords and cavalry side buttons. CONDITION: The pin holding the plume holder/spike is a modern replacement. Helmet has been assembled using a New York NG enlisted helmet and a mix of original enlisted and officers components. From the Ray Bentley collection.
