This is a straight-forward specimen of an Auto Ordnance Thompson with "S" prefix serial number and Bridgeport address on right side of the receiver. Barrel is apparently a replacement threaded at muzzle for Cutts compensator, but no compensator present. Receiver exhibits some discoloration where barrel screws into receiver. Includes one Bridgeport 50 round drum. Serial number matches between lower and upper receivers. Adjustable Lyman rear sight. US Ordnance flaming bomb proof on left side of receiver. "GEG" and "RLB" (Colonel Ray L. Bowlin) initials present on left side of receiver. 1928 bolt and internal parts within receiver. The Thompson machine gun is an iconic part of American lore, whether one is interested in the "gangster era" or its military application, or simply as a recreational item, the Thompson has widespread appeal. Overall appearance is good to very good with about 70% of a smooth grey original finish thinning with some scattered points of pinprick corrosion. Drum has somewhat more scale at the front but this should clean up. Barrel has somewhat more finish towards the receiver, thinning further towards the muzzle. Wood shows moderate handling marks with a noticeable crack on the left side 1-1/2" from the receiver side running parallel to the bore line. There is also a slight crack running parallel to the bore line on the left side of the shoulder stock. The vertical foregrip has a dusting of what appears to be white paint overspray on the left side along with a couple of gouges. None of which affect serviceability. Action is smooth and positive. Bore is very good, shiny and bright. An opportunity for the collector enthusiast who always wanted a classic military Thompson. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
