The Ithaca Auto Burglar was introduced around 1922, and was touted as the perfect defense weapon. Early production, of course, was of the Flues model. After 1926 production changed to the NID with quite a few improvements. This gun has 10" barrels marked "SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL" and "MADE IN U.S.A." on tops. Matted concave rib has extension for NID rotary bolt. Case hardened action with non-automatic safety, pin type cocking indicators, and double triggers is marked with special roll die incorporating "Auto & Burglar Gun" between normal field grade, dog and address. In the new design, action tangs were not bent. A specially designed right angle stock was introduced. Flared grip portion is nicely checkered. Weak cross grain is reinforced by large inset central piece of wood held by two transverse screws., holes plugged. Shortened splinter forend has Deeley type release. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels retain 80% original blue, with numerous marks, mostly on right side. Action with 80% original case hardening color, thinned on bottom. Trigger guard retains over 80% of its blue. There is some overall flecking and darkening of all metal surfaces. Stocks retain 90% of their original finish. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. There is a crack running parallel to trigger guard tang across pistol grip, which flexes. One top bolt plug missing. A good example of this interesting gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 CLASSIFIED AS "ANY OTHER WEAPON". MGM 248
