Designed for home defense, but also useful for small game hunting, the H & R Handy gun was very popular until production ceased due to the implementation of the National Firearms Act. This example, in exceptionally fine condition, has 12 - 1/4" barrel which made it legal in many states before the NFA where a pistol was defined as having a barrel length of 12" or less. Barrel is marked ".410 - 12mm" "CHOKE" on top. Case hardened top lever action with hammer is marked "HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO" "WORCESTER, MASS U.S.A." on right side and "H & R. "Handy Gun"" on left. Serial number is on rear spur forming part of mounting area for walnut pistol grip. Both sides of grip are checkered. Very small forend has spring tension release. Gun is accompanied by an original H&R box with red logo over black printed name and address on top. End label is for a 12 - 1/4" Handy Gun. Right side is printed with serial number 43413 which is also in pencil on top. Box contains packaging material and catalog pages. CONDITION: Excellent, near to new, appears to have been fired very little, with only a few light handling marks in all finishes. Most notably a 3/16" x 1/16" ding on right side of forend. Bore is excellent. Mechanically excellent. Box is fine, foxed with scattered black soiling. End label is good. A very fine example of this truly handy gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 CLASSIFIED AS "ANY OTHER WEAPON". MGM 251
