This Orchestrion was purchased and originally located in the "Gasthaus zum Anker Inn" in Wiesbaden-Bierstadt, Germany. A framed 1920 photograph provenance is included with the instrument. The instrument contains three large original ranks of expression controlled violin pipes, which allows the machine to play quite complex violin music! It was a personal favorite of Robert Milhous, so when his collection of automatic music (the world's largest collection at the time) was sold at auction several years ago, he withdrew this Phillips Peganini Orchestrion from the sale for his personal use!!! This is certainly one of the finest examples known. It was originally located, restored, and formerly resided in the Siegfried Wendel collection of Rüdesheim, Germany. Cosmetic freshening was conducted at the Milhous collection, at which time an appropriate period hand made tapestry was acquired in Bruges, Belgium to enhance the beauty of the case. The original faded tapestry from 1920 has been expertly framed and is included with the instrument. The case has beautiful original hanging lamps, and art glass panels and a fabulous professionally restored case. The Peganini Orchestrion is generally considered today to be the closest to a human violin performance ever produced during the golden era of mechanical music. The Milhous collection included EVERY type violin reproducing machine ever made, and the boss kept this one so that tells you something!!!
