This Colt U.S. Navy overstamp Thompson with Cutts compensator was transferred from a police department to the consignor, and this is the first public offering of this gun to the collector community. In addition to the typical Colt and Auto Ordnance markings on the sides of the receiver, and the added “U.S. NAVY” with overstamped “8” over the “1” in the model designation, this gun has had the police property number “7013” hand inscribed below the serial numbers on both the upper and lower assemblies. Visible numbers are all matching. “JHB” inspection mark clearly visible to the rear of the ejection port on the right side of the receiver. Internal parts are original colt bolt with 1928 actuator, spring and buffer. Stock retains anchor proofmark below attachment iron. Four 20 round original 1920 patent magazines are included, as well as a “NEW YORK N.Y., U.S.A.” 1920 patent dates 50 round drum, and an old 1950’s vintage blue felt lined hard case. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent deep lustrous blue original finish with some slight loss of finish to the high edges and some scratches where the buttstock attaches to the lower assembly. Buttplate finish is worn to pleasing gray patina at the heel and toe ends with nice lustrous blue finish toward the center. There is also some loss of finish to a gray patina where the actuator contacts its slot, and at the muzzle of the Cutts compensator. Vertical foregrip is extremely fine with a rich brown color. Pistol grip has a somewhat lighter brown color with a couple handling nicks. Buttstock wood exhibits typical light nicks and handling marks. Drum magazine is very fine, dull blue finish. Stick magazines fine to very fine with some dings and scattered areas of light brown patina. Hard case extremely fine with vibrant interior color remaining. Firearm bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt also extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. A very nice gun with both military and police history, in the most popular and recognized configuration. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 18-59
