Lot contains: (A) Pressed black fur felt body with standard Model 1881 brass fittings consisting of: eagle front plate with applied German silver "8", signal corps side buttons, plume holder, orange horsehair plume and orange cords. Tan leather sweatband with Horstmann Bros. & Co. maker's stamp under the sweatband. CONDITION: Leather sweatband and visor trim show wear with some losses to the visor trim. (B) Pressed black fur felt body with standard Model 1881 brass fittings consisting of: eagle front plate displaying crossed cannons, artillery side buttons, plume holder, red horsehair plume and red cords. Not fitted for cord rings, cords are held fast under plume base. CONDITION: Excellent. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
