Extra quality throughout with gilded metal components and black cloth covered pressed cork body in excellent condition. Deluxe eagle plate with applique crossed cannons surmounted with a shield affixed to the front of the helmet. A large silvered "2" is attached to the center of shield. All components are as prescribed for the model 1881 dress helmet. Brown leather sweatband, red silk helmet lining which is impressed in gold lettering "Bent & Bush Boston". Housed in its original japanned metal case, the front of which is lightly stenciled "B.K.R." Identified to Benjamin Kearney Roberts who served as a Major with the 2nd U.S. Artillery from October 17, 1899 to February 2, 1901. CONDITION: Excellent. Original officer grade chinstrap, crown plate, plume holder and red yak hair plume are intact. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
