The body is silver plated and decorated with a gilt brass laurel and oak leaf design. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses, support a gilt brass leather backed chin chain, hook on right chin chain boss is missing. At the front is the helmet plate of a half laurel and half oak leaf wreath surrounding the collar of the Order of the Garter and surmounted by a Queen's crown. Mounted to center is a cut silver star of the Order of the Garter. The gilt pierced Garter is set onto a blue enameled ground, to the center is the Cross of St. George in red enamel. At the top of the helmet is a gilt acanthus leaves plume holder atop a base supporting a white horse hair plume. Housed in its original black painted metal case with brass makers tag reading "Hawkes & Co/ 14/ Piccadilly/ London" and brass plate reading "Viscount Dupplin/ 1st Life Guards". Included is research material relating to George Viscount Dupplin who served with the 1st Life Guards from 1844-1856. CONDITION: Very good. The interior of the helmet displays a white cotton bag type liner in very good condition. While the helmets body displays a number of small minor dents, the gilt fittings remain in excellent condition. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
