Lot contains: (A) U.S. Army Model 1881 Musician Dress Helmet, black pressed felt body with eagle front plate with crossed rifles and musician lyre, infantry side buttons. White wool cords and white horse hair plume, thin leather chin strap. Interior leather sweatband very good with minor wear. (B) Model 1872 style artillery enlisted helmet with beaver skin body and six tongue leather liner. Model 1872 eagle front plate, cruciform base and spike and red horsehair plume. Artillery side buttons, red wool helmet and chest cords. While not Federal issue, it certainly may be a state issue helmet and does not appear to have been mounted with any other hardware. (C) Model 1881 New York National Guard pressed cork helmet which has been mounted with a Federal Model 1872 eagle plate and non-regulation plume holder and base. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
