TRIESTE, an area that was independent from 1946-1954, was previously a part of Italy and later split between Italy and Yugoslavia. The "R" before the serial indicates use on a trailer. Plates from Trieste are extremely hard to collect, but a trailer plate from Trieste may be one-of-a-kind in collections today. Beyond rare, this plate grades 9.2.
