No. 4 weight full octagon barrel has all correct factory markings, and is fitted with Globe front sight and scope blocks holding Stevens Scope No. 438, as well as spirit level 8" from breech end. Case hardened No. 44-1/2 action with loop lever, double set triggers, and Stevens-Vernier tang sight, with interchangeable apertures, is engraved with large sprays of shaded scroll on each side within line borders. Nicely crotch figured American walnut pistol grip buttstock with case hardened pronged Swiss buttplate features large cheekpiece for right handed shooter and modified point pattern checkering. Matching schnabeled forend attaches to barrel with two screws. CONDITION: Excellent, showing little use. Barrel retains over 90% original blue, with some sharp edge wear and a few light marks. Action retains approximately 90% light original color, a bit faded, and with high edge wear. Color on lever shows some light cleaning and browning. Stocks retain nearly all of their original varnish, with a number of light marks and scratches. Small gap is present between stock and plate. Checkering is dark, very lightly worn. Buttplate retains most of its case hardening color. Bore is very fine to excellent, a bit dark (may clean). Action is tight. Triggers work. Scope tube is considerably browned and rubbed and retains about 20% blue; optics fogged. An unusual heavy barreled Stevens. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Francis Brown. TR
