Unusual lightweight half octagon, half round barrel is uncut for any sights, scope blocks are mounted holding Fecker 6 X target scope no. 4273 in micrometer mounts. Top of barrel is marked "STEVENS - POPE" and with Stevens name and address. Pope barrel is numbered 1873. Case hardened 44-1/2 action with set double triggers and three finger loop lever is unmarked. Custom stocks are of nicely crotch figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock has high shadow line rollover cheekpiece, and measures 13-7/8" over old red rifle pad. Modified point pattern checkering is at grip. Fancier pattern checkering with ribbons is on long matching forend. A leather sling is installed. Weight: 9 lbs 4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, with alterations. Barrel has been reblued, silvered on high edges with some scratches and thinning toward muzzle. Action retains approximately 80% original color. Lever has only traces of color. Stocks retain nearly all of their original finish. Bore is very fine to excellent, possibly somewhat frosted, but may clean. Scope is fine, retaining 80% blue, slightly clouded. Ocular cover missing. This rare variation would look really great if one could find some original stocks.
