Face of the action is marked 52. Case colored non-engraved action. Fitted with double set triggers and nickel plated Pope three finger lever. Buttstock is a typical Stevens Pope Model style with lovely fine checkering and made of nicely figured American walnut. Buttplate is in the Pope model style and nickel plated. Forearm is of the two screw style, beautifully checkered with a fine checkering pattern, and has an add-on custom palm rest. Barrel is full octagon, No. 4 weight. There are two holes drilled and tapped on the underside of the forearm, most likely for a Pope machine rest. Under the forearm is marked the Pope barrel number, 446, partially obliterated by a screw, and the Pope code 25/1.41. Barrel is an odd length and may have been shortened. There is a blank filler where the front sight would go, and a Stevens-Vernier tang sight. Scope is a Winchester B5 with an unusual aperture on post reticle. Extra barrel is No. 4 weight and 30" full octagon with scope bases on top. Marked .22 Short with J. Stevens two line address. Barrel has been lined and is .22 LR chamber length . Has Serial number 4686 on bottom flat forward of checked walnut forearms with last three digits of serial number on rear of forearm. CONDITION: Traces of case color remaining on the action. Lever has patches of nickel missing. Buttstock has almost all of the original finish with minor handling marks. Buttplate nickel is flaking off in very small patches. Forearm shows only the most minor handling marks. Majority of barrel blue remaining with losses at the sharp edges of the octagon. Good action with an excellent bore. Optics are good. A nice clean Pope special, very presentable. Extra barrel has excellent relined bore and over 85% blue finish with very good forearms with two holes in bottom for rest. TR
