Department of the Navy Special Devices (Device 3-F-9) manufactured for the National Guard of the United States Sub-caliber unit for the US 75mm recoiless rifle. Vintage is 1953 according to the enclosed original maintenance and utilization manual and is in its original military wooden box. This device utilizes a 75mm subcaliber round, .22 caliber assembly, .30 caliber barrel, .30 caliber adapter assembly and small parts for practice and training purposes. Essentially, the sub caliber barrel with adapter collars is inserted into a dummy shell casing and projectile the size of a normal round, and a disk shape breech is screwed onto the chamber end which accepts either a .22 caliber rimfire round, or .30 caliber round depending which of the barrels are used. Both barrels are present in this kit. This kit appears complete and serviceable. CONDITION: Appears near mint and unused in its original preservative grease with grease staining to the manual. Bore covered in preservative grease. Box is in fine original condition with two screws missing from right hand side hinge. Screw holes in wood appear undamaged so screw replacement should be straightforward. A wonderful find for the owner of a 75mm recoiless rifle. JWK 18-127
