Very attractive combination of MP-38 and MP-40 parts on an Inland Arms Company MP-38 registered receiver. One can immediately spot the milled lightening “ribs” in the heavy steel receiver and flat magazine housing. Other features the discerning observer will pick up on will be the barrel is MP-38 with a muzzle cover ridge forward of the front sight and early magazine release button, and also will note the trigger guard has no reinforcement ridge. The rest of the gun is made up of MP-40 parts such as the bolt with sliding locking handle. Lower assembly is marked MP-40 and “bnz” (Steyr) and was manufactured in 1942. Serial numbers do not match on parts. No discernible serial number on barrel. Included with this lot is an original, albeit unmarked, leather sling with correct stitching, and seven original Nazi marked magazines and one Nazi marked magazine loader in a pair of tan magazine pouches. The pouches are a useful way to keep the magazines and loader together as the guns is transported to and from the range. The receiver tube is marked by the manufacturer on the underside and with serial number on left side forward of the magazine housing. At first glance the casual observer’s heart rate will quicken when they observe this gun, as the workmanship is that good! The MP-38 (machine pistol 1938 model) was submitted to meet the needs of the German military for a compact burst-fire weapons which originally was primarily to be used by dismounted armor and otherwise vehicle mounted troops. It evolved into the MP-40 which was far less time consuming to produce because the latter utilized more metal stampings, including the receiver. The MP-38 model, when found today, is one of the most sought and prized of the German World War II machine pistol models, and this cataloger can envision the collector who has the appropriate parts might want to acquire this specimen and complete a fine (all original except the tube) attention grabber. This would also make a great entry level machine gun for the recreational shooting enthusiast. Relatively slow firing, easy to control, comfortable, and utilizing readily available ammunition. This is a full-auto only machine gun eligible to be transferred into State of Connecticut. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine as refinished upon assembly. There are some light handling marks and dings to the furnishings. Bore is very clean, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. A very attractive specimen indeed.
