Completely original M1881 cavalry field grade officers full dress helmet as prescribed for Major through Colonel. Fine quality throughout with gilded metal components and black cloth-covered pressed-cork body in excellent condition with no soft spots or bug damage. Deluxe two-piece eagle plate with crossed cavalry sabers surmounted with a shield affixed to the front of the helmet. A German silver "6" is attached to the center of shield. All components are as prescribed for the Model 1881 officer dress helmet. Brown leather sweatband is intact along with a fine polished silk burgundy liner to the crown. Original officer grade crown plate, plume holder and dyed yellow yak hair plume are intact. Complete with gold metallic chest cords and waffles. The 6th Cavalry Regiment was active in the Apache Wars, and the suppression of the Ghost Dance movement. Provenance: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection. CONDITION: Excellent.
