Gilded metal components and black cloth-covered pressed-cork body in excellent condition with no soft spots or splits. Deluxe eagle plate with applique crossed sabers surmounted with a shield affixed to the front of the helmet. A large silvered "1" is attached to the center of shield with cavalry side buttons that have chin scale hooks attached. All components are as prescribed for the model 1881 officer dress helmet. Brown leather sweatband is intact with traces of US Quartermaster stamp remaining. Dyed yellow yak plume is solid and intact. Crown label impressed in gold lettering on red background: "BAKER & MCKENNEY." Provenance: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection. CONDITION: Very good with sweatband and interior lining showing some moderate wear. Gold metallic cords closest to helmet show heavy tarnishing, but waffles and attached long cords are still bright.
