This pistol was one in the William M. Locke Collection and is shown as pistol "D" on page 77 of "The American Arms Collector". The pistol is also shown in plate 13 on page 122 and 123 of "UNITED STATES MARTIAL PISTOLS & REVOLVERS" by Major Arcadi Gluckman. The pistol has an octagonal smoothbore barrel with hooked breech and small brass front sight. The flat lockplate is stamped "J. HENRY" in the center. The furniture is the style of the 1807 contract pistol with the addition of a silver oval-shaped wrist escutcheon and slightly different sideplate. Full length plain walnut stock with replaced steel tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel and lock have an applied brown finish, showing some wear and minor pitting. Lock reconverted to flintlock configuration professionally. Brass retains a mellow mustard patina. Stock a couple minor slivers replaced around lockplate. A nice unusual variation. DMG
