Of standard configuration throughout, this is a superior specimen of this large, handsome and desirable pistol. With approximately only 600 manufactured, this is one of the rarest US Martial pistols. The 11" barrel, dated 1818, crisply stamped with a "P", an eagle, and an "E". The lock stamped with eagle in field over "US", deeply stamped "SPRINGFIELD 1818". The walnut stock with legible inspector's stamps "U" over "F. N.". A further stamp with an "S" in an oval cartouche. Steel furniture of regulation pattern. CONDITION: Barrel is polished bright with crisp markings, lock polished bright. Pistol shows no evidence of re-conversion. Action is crisp, stock rates excellent for this model with great cartouches, some raised grain and now significant damage other than minor marks. Ramrod is a modern replacement. Bore is good. One of the best model 1817's we have handled. MZ
