The round barrel with side flats stamped at breech "U.S. INSPECTOR JCS". The frame clearly marked on left side "ALLEN AND THURBER, GRAFTON, MASS.". Configuration not found in Flayderman. Figured walnut grips affixed with two screws, stirrup rammer. Boxlock action with plain hammer. Pistol possibly made as a trials piece. 13" overall. CONDITION: Bright polished barrel and frame, stirrup rammer and rib with some minor rust, wood grips with minor marks, trigger guard polished bright, as is frame and barrel. Action is tight but gun only has one cocking notch. Bore is fair. An extremely interesting and unique attempt by Allen & Thurber at a full size US Martial single shot pistol. MZ
