For a similar example, see number 140 on pages 288-289 in "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter. This pistol is to the identical specifications of the 1813 Maryland Contract pistols, but is not marked "Maryland". the round, smoothbore barrel has a dovetailed front blade sight of brass and is unmarked. The flat lockplate has beveled edges and is stamped in the center "H DERINGER / PHILA". Standard brass 1813 style furniture. Plain walnut stock with replaced wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel and lock have been heavily cleaned and browned, both have areas of pitting beneath finish. Lock is a professional reconversion. Brass retains a mustard patina. Stock is heavily refinished and has scattered areas of replaced wood throughout. DMG
