For another identical example, see number 109 on pages 228-229 of "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter. A record in the National Archives dated 1811 lists the number of pistols delivered under the 1807 contracts by each contractor. Martin Fry was credited with 58 pairs. Only three pistols by Fry are known to exist, according to "Historic Pistols". The pistol has a round, smoothbore barrel with small brass front sight and is stamped at the breech with "US" and an eagle's head over "CT". The flat lockplate has beveled edges and is stamped at the tail, vertically, "M FREY US". Standard brass 1807 contract furniture. Full length plain walnut stock stamped behind the sideplate on the left side with inspector's cartouche "V / JS" for Jacob Shough. CONDITION: Barrel retains a grey patina and the markings are clear. Some additional finish has been added. The lock appears to be a good, professional reconversion with excellent markings. The lock retains a grey patina. Brass retains a mellow mustard patina. The last 6" of the forend have been professionally replaced. This rare pistol is one of only three known. DMG
