For another example of this model see number 114 on page 240 of "Historic Pistols" by Samuel E. Smith and Edwin W. Bitter. This model was made between 1805 and 1811. The pistol has a round smoothbore barrel marked at the breech with a partially visible "P" cartouche, and "4 VA REG'T" on top. The flat lockplate has beveled edges and is marked "VIRGINIA / Manufactory" in the center and "RICHMOND / 1806" vertically at the tail. Standard 1st Model iron mounts and backstrap. Full length plain walnut stock with replaced iron ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina, heavy in some areas, regiment markings clear. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, markings clear and lock has a dark brown patina. Furniture retains a dark patina. Stock shows some minor areas of chipping around lock and furniture and has a sliver replaced above front lockplate tang along barrel. Some minor cracks and dents are present, but an honest example of a rare and early pistol. DMG
