This model is considered among the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing of American Martial pistols. The prestigious American Society of Arms Collectors chose this gun in profile as their logo. These guns were made in pairs between 1806 and 1808 with a total production of about 4,000 guns with each gun of a pair having the same serial number. This gun is the standard pattern with round steel barrel, breech marked with stamped serial number "1797", "US" in an oval, and an eagles head over "P". Lock is marked “HARPERS/FERRY/1808” in vertical arcs behind cock. Under the pan is a spread-winged eagle facing toward the cock over “US”. The plain walnut stock is marked opposite the lock with slightly worn inspector cartouche "V / JS" for inspector James Stubblefield. Standard brass Model 1805 furniture. Brass-tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a freckled grey patina with some scattered heavier pitting, has been cleaned at some time, serial number very deep, some wear to eagle proof. Some pitting around touchole. Lock appears to be in its original flintlock configuration, frizzen has been re-lined and pan and frizzen screws are replaced. Markings are excellent and lock retains a spotted grey patina, some heavy corrosion in pan. Stock good with some scattered marks from use, one area replaced behind rear lock tang and a hairline crack running from barrel band to front of lock tang. Ramrod is a proper replacement. Brass retains a mellow patina with a few minor marks. DMG
