This Allen cutlass pistol has a 12" long by 1-7/8" wide blade, reminiscent of the Martial cutlass pistols made for the Wilkes South Sea Expedition. The octagonal barrel is unmarked, blade is unmarked, box lock plain. Numbered on bolster "4". Frame mounted with a 4" long steel belt hook. Plain walnut bag-type grip. CONDITION: Barrel and frame have heavy varnish over old pitting, Bowie blade with heavy varnish over old brown finish with pitting. Trigger appears to be an old replacement, gun will not cock properly, grip is good with old varnish, no major splits, cracks, or losses; only minor marks. Brass front sight is an old replacement. Bore is fair. This is a very large cutlass pistol, 17" overall, the same dimension as the Wilkes South Sea cutlass pistol. A most impressive Bowie knife percussion pistol. MZ
