Bowie blade measures 13" overall and 1-1/2" in width and is superbly etched with American eagle clutching arrows and leaves, further in panel Elgin's patent with a man battling a very fierce bear, holding aloft an Elgin cutlass pistol. The left side with a spray of flowers, etched "MORIL MOSMAN AND BLAIN, AMHERST, MASS.", and Lady Liberty holding aloft phrygian cap, marked "LIBERTY". Unmarked round barrel, boxlock frame with no markings, walnut bag grip, plain hammer. CONDITION: Barrel is brown with no significant corrosion. Frame is consonant with barrel. The frost etched blade is quite brilliant with all details clearly visible and only the most minor chips. Blade does not appear to have ever been sharpened except by the factory. Action functions as it should, walnut grip with old repaired crack and a small fill of old plastic wood at extreme point of rounded butt. Bore is excellent. As an American Bowie with such patriotic and fantastic frost etching, the knife itself would probably command five figures. This is spectacular Elgin cutlass pistol. MZ
